Welcome to the Office

Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion is an independent Officer of the House of Commons responsible for helping appointed and elected officials prevent and avoid conflicts between their public duties and private interests. With the support of his Office, the Commissioner applies the Conflict of Interest Act for public office holders and the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons.
 

​The Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner provides independent, rigorous and consistent direction and advice to Members of Parliament and federal public office holders, conducts investigations and, where necessary, makes use of appropriate sanctions in order to ensure full compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons and the Conflict of Interest Act.

 

Meet the Commissioner

 
Mario Dion became Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner on January 9, 2018, following a long and distinguished career with the Government of Canada. A Montreal native, Mr. Dion obtained a law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1979. Mr. Dion began his legal career in 1980 as a legal advisor at the then-Ministry of the Solicitor General. Read more
