Advising Clients

The Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner provides confidential advice to public office holders and Members of the House of Commons to help them comply with the Conflict of Interest Act and the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons.

Our Office has regular contact with the individuals who are subject to these regimes from the time they take office. We remind them of their obligations and provide them with the information they need to comply with the Act or Code. We develop and issue a variety of tools that are designed to clarify specific issues, most of which are available on this website. These include communiqués, advisory opinions, guidelines, information notices and backgrounders.

We meet with individuals and organizations, when necessary or desirable, to ensure that public office holders and Members fully understand their obligations under the Act and the Code. We organize information sessions for groups when requested, offer assistance completing forms and provide guidance on individual questions.
